We are deeply honored that Bintang Capital Partners has recently been shortlisted as a finalist for the prestigious Real Deals ESG Awards 2024 in the Mid Cap PE House of the Year category.
This award recognises firms who are making a real difference by integrating ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) principles into their investment strategies. The judging process will focus on how deeply ESG is interwoven into the fabric of a firm's DNA through the following assessments:
Investment Strategy: How are ESG factors considered throughout the investment process, from deal selection to portfolio management?
Data & Reporting: Does the firm have a robust system for collecting, analysing, and reporting ESG data to its investors?
Unique Selling Point: What makes the firm's ESG policies and practices truly innovative and impactful?
Since 2021, Bintang has taken huge strides in our sustainability and impact journey, which we believe sets us distinctively apart within the ASEAN private equity industry. We became the first B Corp certified private equity firm in Southeast Asia in May 2023 and have won several awards because of our pioneering strategies, including the ASEAN Business Advisory Council (ASEAN BAC)'s Innovative Finance prize and Environmental Finance’s Global SME of the Year.
In March 2024, Bintang launched the fundraising process for our second impact fund, BCP Asia Fund II (BCPAF II), which we believe is the world’s first B Corp Propagator Fund – in other words, a fund whose stated objective is to create B Corps. BCPAF II has a unique carrot-and-stick mechanism to ensure that impact outcomes are met through a combination of approaches including the incorporation of impact-linked carry and equity clawback mechanisms.
Our investment strategy is anchored by our Responsible and Sustainable Investment Policy, incorporating the UN Principles for Responsible Investment (UN PRI), the Impact Principles, and B Lab’s B Corp Certification. In the pre-investment phase, we screen potential investments for ESG risks and conduct thorough sustainability due diligence. An ESG action plan and a 100-Day Plan are developed for each investee based on the findings of these due diligence exercises.
Post-investment, we appoint board representatives who focus on ESG issues, and also second team members to support the execution of ESG plans. Regular meetings ensure consistent progress tracking.
We maintain full transparency with our Limited Partners through comprehensive quarterly reports which cover sustainability metrics and impact goals.
